Wireless LAN navigation using MobileWALK to commemorate German Railways' anniversary in 2010
- Friday, 20 May 2011
The visitors to the Technology Mile in the middle of Nuremberg's pedestrian precinct from Lorenzkirche through Karolinenstraße up to Jakobsplatz will be able to load the MobileWALK wireless LAN-based localizing and information software on their Smartphones for free. The program will show selected information, like the locations of the nearest ATM machine or ice cream parlour, for example, directly on your mobile phone.
In 2010, Nuremberg will be celebrating 175 years of German railway history. With the Adler engine pulling the train, the first German railway journey started in Nuremberg. The program that Nuremberg will be presenting for the railway anniversary is all stored in MobileWALK's maps and you can easily call it. This means that visitors can be perfectly informed about events and exhibition venues.
The software for wireless LAN-capable Windows Mobile devices, which is a joint research project between IT2media GmbH & Co. KG and the Fraunhofer Institute for integrated circuits, will be available here soon.
